Belts and hoses are not only essential to the engine but alsoto the cooling, air conditioning and charging systems. Serpentine belts are used on most engines to turn the waterpump, alternator, power steering and air-conditioning compressor.

If a worn belt snaps, it may cause engine damage. A blown hose could result in an overheated engine. That's why regular inspections are essential: to prevent the loss of important vehicle systems that depend on belt and hose performance.
  • Hoses should be checked at each oil change for hardening or softening, leaking, visible cracks or blistering.
  • Clamps should also be replaced when new hoses are installed.
  • Poly V-belts should be replaced every three to four years or 40,000 to 50,000 miles.
  • Replace the timing chain based on the interval specified in the Operator's Manual.
